How to ride a Tram and a Bus

Tram,Hakodate Bus and Hokkaido Bus

○Get on the bus/tram from the rear door or front door (in the case when the bus does not have a rear door) and pay your fare just before you get off.

○The destination of the bus/tram is desplayed on the front board.

○A one-day or two-day bus/tram pass and IC card is available when using the tram and/or Hakodate Bus.
 You can purchase those passes online on Dohna!!.

○Please use the change machine installed at the front of the bus/tram to make change and put the exact fare into the fare box.

 (The limit for making change is ¥2,000) The fare box cannot make change. 

※ Hokkaido Bus only takes cash payments. Electronic tickets(e-tickets) purchased in advance are also available.

(1) Do not forget to touch your IC card to the reader or to take a numbered ticket at the entrance when getting on the bus/tram.

(2) Press the "want-to-get-off button" after your destination has been announced.

 ■When paying your fare using cash … Look at the fare indicating display located at the front of the bus/tram.

  Confirm your numbered-ticket number and you will see your fare displayed in the column under your ticket number.

  Prepare the exact fare before you get off.

 

(3) Please stand up only after the bus/tram has come to a complete stop when you want to get off the bus/tram.

 ■When using the IC card … Please touch your IC card to the reader.

 ■When using a one-day or two-day pass … Please show your pass to the driver.

 ■when paying your fare using cash … First, put your nubered ticket into the fare box then put the exact fare into the box.

Hakodate Teisan Bus

○Get on the bus from the front door.

○A sightseeing bus type vehicle equipped with a cargo area under the vehicle body is used.

○When to pay the fare depends on the bus you take. Please ask the driver for details.

○Electronic tickets(e-tickets) purchased in advance are also available. Please show your e-tickets to the driver.

Connection discount system of Tram/Hakodate Bus

Connection discount of tram/Hakodate Bus can be used when a direct line is not available or when service is limited.

(Connection discount cannot be used on some lines and when transferring to the Hakodate Teisan Bus's line and the Hokkaido Bus's line.)

 

When riding the tram/bus by paying the fee in cash.

Effective December 1, 2023, connection discounts are no longer available.

When riding the tram/bus using an IC card "ICAS nimoca""nimoca"

 No discount for other IC cards

 

○If the transport mode is the same, (tram to tram or Hakodate Bus to Hakodate Bus) the fare for the second tram/bus will be discounted by up to ¥160. Please note however you must get on the second tram/bus within 60 minutes from getting off the first tram/bus. 

○If the transport mode is not the same, (tram to Hakodate Bus or Hakodate Bus to tram) the fare for the second tram/bus will be discounted by up to ¥160. Please note however you must get on the second tram/bus from the following designated transfer stop within 60 minutes from getting off the first tram/bus.
